Control over nursing practices, one of the significant components of a professional work environment, is defined as affecting the employment and work environment at the service level of the institution, perceived freedom for organizing and evaluating nursing practices, the ability to make independent and interdependent decisions about patient care and accountability for the results of such decisions. Therefore, nurses are expected to have control over their healthcare service practices in a professional, safe and cost-effective way. This study scrutinizes the concept of control over nursing practices, which is frequently confused with other concepts in the literature, reviewing the previous studies and making suggestions to improve this control.
