Abstract:

İstanbul’un fethiyle (1453) birlikte Türk hâkimiyetine giren Limni Adası’nın, Osmanlı-Venedik mücadelelerinin yaşandığı XVII. yüzyılın ikinci yarısında, Çanakkale Boğazı’na hakim konumda olduğundan stratejik önemi artmıştı. XVII. yüzyılın sonlarında ve XVIII. yüzyılın değişik dönemlerinde birkaç kez tamirattan geçen Limni Kalesi, 1768-1774 Osmanlı-Rus harplerinde 1770’te Rus donanmasının muhasarasına maruz kalmıştır. Üç ay süren muhasara Kaptanı Derya Cezayirli Gazi Hasan Paşa’nın yardıma gelerek Rus donanmasını püskürtmesi ile son bulmuştur. Muhasara sırasında yoğun top ve humbara atışlarına maruz kalan kalede büyük tahribat olmuş, 1770’li yıllarda tekrar onarımdan geçmiştir.
