AbstractEach of healthcare staff works for sustainability of health care by performing their own duties in order to provide treatment and care services best. Occupational health and safety plays an important role in elimination of risks and hazards to which healthcare staff suffering from occupational risks and accidents due to nature of their profession are exposed during their work. The purpose of this study is to determine situations of staff regarding occupational accidents experienced by them in order to guide studies to be carried out in the field of occupational health and safety in Akdeniz University Hospital. Notifications of occupational accidents made to Akdeniz University Hospital Workplace Health Unit between January 2012 and October 2015 were used as the data, and the obtained data were input to SPSS 22.0 packaged software for statistical analysis. In the analysis, p values smaller than 0.05 were accepted statistically significant. In this study; among those making notifications of occupational accidents, 5% were doctors, 13% were nurses, 6% were health technicians, 12% were kitchen staff, 53% were cleaning staff, and 11% were other group (secretary, information, office staff, technical personnel). As a result of the analysis, it was determined that occupational accidents were experienced more in the clinical areas compared to outpatient clinic areas. It was determined that while injuries in foot-leg and hand-arm parts had a higher rate in the clinic areas, injuries of finger, eye and facial areas were higher in the outpatient clinic areas compared to clinical areas.
