Türk siyasi hayatında bilhassa Cumhuriyet döneminin en yaygın öznelerinden bir tanesi “din” olmuştur. Bu özne, gerek devlet-toplum gerekse de iktidar-muhalefet ilişkilerini belirleyen en önemli araçlardan bir tanesi halini almıştır. Dinin geç Osmanlı ve erken Cumhuriyet dönemlerinden itibaren kamusal alandaki varlığının siyaset eliyle biçimlendirilmeye çalışması, buna koşut devlet erkinin laik tandanslı uygulamalarının kamusal alanda yarattığı bir takım tartışmalar, din olgusunun siyasi gündemin özneleri içerisinde ön plana çıkmasına zemin hazırlamıştır. İttihat Terakki-Hürriyet İtilaf, Cumhuriyet Halk Fırkası-Terakkiperver Cumhuriyet Fırkası, Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi-Demokrat Parti ikilileri arasında görülen siyasi çatışmalarda din önemli bir belirleyici olmuştur. Genel hatlarıyla bu ikililer arasında ilk partinin seküler yorumların uygulayıcısı, ikincisinin ise muhafazakâr ve din odaklı bir anlayışın savunucusu olduğu görüşü genel kabule uygundur. Bu tarihsel etkileşim, 1950 yılında Demokrat Parti’nin iktidara gelmesiyle birlikte o güne dek görülmedik biçimde ivme kazanmış ve önceki dönemden aldığı laik-muhafazakâr temelli siyasi tartışmaların dozunu arttırarak günümüz Türkiye’sine kadar taşınmasında etkili bir dönem olarak öne çıkmıştır. Bu makalede, Demokrat Parti’nin (DP) iktidar olmasıyla birlikte devletin laik politikalarında görülen dönüşümler ve bu politikalara muhalefet zeminine yerleşen Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi’nin (CHP) verdiği tepkiler incelenecektir. Sürecin incelenmesi, tekil olaylar üzerinden ele alınacak ve hem uygulamalar, hem de bunların yarattığı tartışmaların verileri ele alınarak bunların Türk siyasetine etkileri değerlendirilecektir. Böylece Türkiye’de yerleşik; laik-dindar tartışmalarının siyasi boyutuna tarihsel bir süreçte bakılacak ve bu bağlamın içerisine sıkışmış kalmış Türk siyasi hayatının “din” olgusundan nasıl etkilendiğinin tarihsel arka planı okuyucuya sunulmuş olacaktır.
In the political life of Turkey, one of the common subjects of the Republic period was "religion". This substance has become one of the important means of determining the power-opposition relationships, whether the state-social need. The attempt to form the existence of religion in the public sphere from the late Ottoman and early Republic periods with the political hand, a series of discussions created by the secular practices of the state man in the public sphere, prepared the ground for the outcome of the religious phenomenon within the objects of the political agenda. The political conflict between the Republican People's Party and the Republican People's Party and the Republican People's Party and the Republican People's Party and the Republican People's Party and the Republican People's Party and the Republican People's Party and the Republican People's Party and the Republican People's Party and the Republican People's Party and the Republican People's Party and the Republican People's Party and the Republican People's Party and the Republican People's Party. The view that the first party is the practicer of secular comments and the second is the defender of a conservatory and religious-oriented understanding is general acceptance. This historical interaction has gained an unprecedented momentum with the Democratic Party’s arrival to power in 1950 and has emerged as an effective period in its move to today’s Turkey by increasing the dose of secular-conservative political debates that it took from the previous period. This article will examine the changes seen in the state’s secular policies while the Democratic Party (DP) is in power and the reactions of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), which is placed on the ground of opposition to these policies. The study of the process will be addressed through individual events and the data of both practices and the discussions they create will be assessed by the impact of them on Turkish politics. Thus, the political dimension of the laic-religious discussions settled in Turkey will be viewed in a historic process and the historic background of how the "religious" phenomenon of the Turkish political life that is stuck in this context will be presented to the reader.
One of the most common subjects in the Turkish political life, especially of the Republican era, was “religion”. This subject has become one of the most important means that determine the relationships between the state-society and the government-opposition. The attempt to shape the existence of religion in the public sphere from the late Ottoman and early Republican periods through the use of politics, and in parallel a series of debates created in the public sphere by the secularly inclined practices of the state power paved the way for the emergence of the phenomenon of religion in the subjects of the political agenda. Religion has been an important determinant in the political conflicts between the Union and Progress-the Freedom and Alliance, the Republican People’s Party-the Progressive Republican Party, the Republican People’s Party-Democratic Party. In general terms, between these two parties, it is generally accepted that the first party was the practitioner of the secular interpretations while the second party was the supporter of a conservative and religion-oriented understanding. This historical interaction, with the coming to power of the Democrat Party in 1950, gained an unseen momentum until that time, by increasing the dose of the secular-conservative based political debates obtained from the previous period has come forward as an effective period of today’s Turkey. This study examines the transformations in the secular policies of the state with the Democrat Party’s (DP) coming to the power and the reactions of the Republican People's Party (CHP), which took the seats of opposition, to these policies. The examination of the process will be treated through singular incidents and the data of both the practices and the discussions they created will be addressed and their impact on Turkish politics will be evaluated. Therefore, the political background of the secular-religious debates, established in Turkey, will be looked through a historical process and how the historical background of the Turkish political life that has been stuck in this context was affected by the phenomenon of religion will be presented to readers.
