Son yılların öne çıkan kavramı sürdürülebilir gelişme, ekonomik büyümenin yanı sıra sosyal, kültürel ve çevresel alanlarda da gelişimi içermektedir. Bu düşünceye göre ekonomik büyümenin ve dolayısıyla iktisadi refahın sürdürülebilirliği sosyal ve çevresel sürdürülebilirliğe de bağlı bulunmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, çevresel ve sosyal faktörler ile ekonomik büyüme arasındaki ilişkileri yüksek gelirli ve orta gelirli ülkelerden oluşan iki örneklem için araştırmaktır. Bu amaçla hazırlanan çalışmada 48 yüksek gelirli ve 63 orta gelirli ülke için 1998-2015 dönemini kapsayan yıllık veriler kullanılmıştır. 1998-2012 dönemini kapsayan çalışmada panel veri analiz yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Söz konusu ilişkilerin sınanması için oluşturulan modelde sürdürülebilir gelişme bağlamında çevresel değişkenler, sosyal değişkenler ve büyümeyi etkileyebilecek diğer kontrol değişkenleri olmak üzere üç farklı değişken seti oluşturulmuştur. Çalışmada elde edilen sonuçlara göre, yüksek gelirli ve orta gelirli ülkelerde sosyal ve çevresel faktörler büyümenin önemli birer belirleyicisi durumundadır. Buna göre, ekonomik, sosyal ve çevresel politikalar arasında uyum sağlanması sürdürülebilir bir ekonomik gelişmenin sağlanmasında önemli rol oynamaktadır.
The prominent concept of recent years includes sustainable development, economic growth as well as development in social, cultural and environmental areas. The sustainability of economic growth and therefore economic well-being is also dependent on social and environmental sustainability. The aim of this study is to investigate the relations between environmental and social factors and economic growth for two samples consisting of high-income and medium-income countries. The study used annual data covering the period 1998-2015 for 48 high-income and 63 medium-income countries. The study covered the period 1998-2012, using the panel data analysis method. The model created to test those relationships has created three different variables in the context of sustainable development, including environmental variables, social variables and other control variables that can affect growth. According to the results obtained in the study, social and environmental factors in high-income and medium-income countries are an important determiner of growth. Accordingly, the harmonization of economic, social and environmental policies plays an important role in ensuring sustainable economic development.
