Abstract In the context of post-dictatorship, Argentine theater has given aesthetic responses to different cultural questions. For example, it has explored through poetry historical and autobiographical referents in order to find specific representation mechanisms of social memory. Therefore, in this article we study the changes that have taken place in the treatment of the above-mentioned "referents", through the description and analysis of three poetic forms of contemporary playwriting in Argentina, viz.: firstly, docudrama or canonical documentary theater and its persistence in regional intellectual circles; secondly, the docudrama which extends the degrees of poiesis of the referents used; thirdly, autofiction trends in the local scene and their correlative socio-political function.
