Abstract:

It is known that human beings are in need of socialization and communication until the present time from the first time they can be lighted up. The human being meets this need by face to face and by putting some tools together. As a result of the technological developments and the developments of internet and social media concepts, it is observed that changes in the structure of many things related to people are observed. The communication that explains man’s connection with the outside world and with other people is also included in this structure.In this study, the concepts of social media and interpersonal communication are clarified. Usage of social media applications such as Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, Twitter, Foursquare (Swarm), Google Plus, Linkedin has been mentioned. It has been tried to reveal the positive and negative aspects of social media by examining the results of the researches about whether they affect the communication of the people. When the positive and negative effects are examined; social media has had positive effects on the way of reducing the cost of communication and time and space limitations in the interpersonal communication, but the result is that the communication is fetishized which is alienated to itself and to the outside world. It has also been observed that social media can not provide the satisfaction and warmth obtained from face-toface communication.
