Abstract:

The objective of this work is to emphasize the relevance of nutritional intervention in the pre-postoperation of bariatric surgery, promoting weight loss and eating habits re-education. For this, a bibliographic revision was done. The most applied surgeries are; Capella Surgery and Bypass Y de Roux Surgery. A detailed nutritional assessment is done in the pre-operatory with important information about the life style, eating habits and nutritional status ofthe patient. Other purposes are to reinforce the patient perception that weight loss is possible when the energetic balance becomes negative, to identify the errors and eating disruptions, to promote real expectations about weight loss, to prepare the patient for the post operation feeding. All the techniques require dietary data and monitoring post operation at long term. After the discharge from hospital, the patient follows a gradual plan of re-introduction of food with an initial energetic consumption between 300-350 kcal/day, reaching 700 kcal on the third week. Point out the necessity of constant attention of how much to chew, as well as the importance of do not consume a great amount of food than the recommended one. The pattern and unsuitable food habits in the postoperation is related to the insufficient weight loss. It can be concluded that the bariatric surgery is not the end of the treatment, but the beginning of a changing period in the behavior and food habits, where the patients must be followed by a multidisciplinary team that supply the necessary support so that the changes occur without affecting your nutritional balance.
