The aim of the research is to study the relationship between healthy life style behaviors and quality of life of patients with prostate cancer and the sociodemographic factors affecting this relationship. The study group covered 98 patients over 50 years who applied for treatment and follow-up in Radiation Oncology and Urology Clinics of Ege University Medical Faculty between the dates of 01 August-20 August 2003. Necessary permissions obtained from the hospital and the relevant clinics, in addition to patients’ verbal approvals to be voluntary in the study. “Socio-Demographic Data Form”, “Healthy Life Style Behaviors Scale”, “SF 36 Quality of Life Scale” were used for data collection through face-to-face interview with patients. In statistical analyses correlation, t test, variance analysis and post hoc Tukey test were used. Mean score of Healthy Life Style Behavior Scale is 124.54 ±8.61. Mean score of Quality of Life Scale is 87.21 ±6.81. A moderate positive correlation between healthy life style behaviors and quality of life of patients with prostate cancer was determined r=0.33 . It was found that quality of life was affected by marial status, type of family and the individuals living together with patient. Healthy Life Style Behaviors were influenced by type of treatment that patient received. It was concluded that patients who demonstrated healthy life style behaviors and had increased quality of life may have a possible reflection in coping with cancer and improvement health in their status
