Abstract:

Mehmed Ref'i; professor of Pharmacology and Pharmacy at the military and civilian medical schools in Istanbul, has written a book for students of medicine and pharmacy in 1908. The book is entitled Fenn-i Tertîb-i Edviye Dersleri: Reçete Yazmak ve Okumak (Courses on Drug Preparation: Writing and Reading Prescriptions). While writing this book, he edited a book that students were using during their courses, compiled after his lecture notes and stated that he referred to many foreign journals and works to edit and complement his lecture notes. He declared that his book was an attempt to demonstrate to Ottoman doctors and medical students that they could prescribe in Turkish instead of French. In this presentation, Dr. Mehmed Ref'i's book of pharmacology and pharmacy will be introduced.
