Abstract:

With the adoption of neo-liberal ideology, the social segregation caused by the spatial transformation experienced in a short time in cities that have become the accumulation area of capital, has become visibly evident in all cities of the world today. This reproduction, which does not remain as a mere physical change, has created serious socio-economic, cultural and spatial differentiations in cities depending on the adopted urban transformation practices. The aim of this study is to reveal the neighborhood typologies that emerged as a result of urban transformation practices and how these neighborhoods embodied in different ways, and how the neighborhood residents relate to this figure. It has been observed that different localities have significantly different codes of behavior in their relations with this institution/person, which has been elected but has an administrative texture. In this study, firstly, urbanization and urban transformation practices in Turkey will be briefly discussed. In the following part, the spatial and social segregation and neighborhood typologies created by these practices in the neoliberal city will be discussed. In the last part, it will be discussed how these different typologies embody the neighborhood headman in different ways even though it has the same institutional structure at every neighborhood.
