Abstract:

The History of Poverty of the 18th The Social Appearances of Women’s Poverty in the Second Half of the Century
2019

Abstract:

The poverty that leads to the lowest layer of social hierarchy can be defined as a state of lack of sufficient resources and income. In recent years, with the increase in social gender studies, the conceptualization of “women’s poverty” which emphasizes gender differences in the ways in which women experience poverty has begun to be used. This concept refers to the differentiation of the experiences of poverty from the men depending on the roles and status of women in society. The main topic of this study reveals the experiences of poverty of the poor women who lived in Diyarbekir in the second half of the 18th century. The main source of the study, which is a historical sociology research, is the register of 7 sherks of the Amid court in the central location of the Diyarbekir state of the period. It is intended to take a picture of the daily lives of the poor women living in the period examined through the poverty images in the document of the 119 poor women identified among the recordings in these records, thus keeping light on the historic background of the poverty of women. In the study, the houses that make up the daily spaces of the poor women are generally destroyed houses, and in the practice of clothing the presence of clothes described as "köhne" and drawn as remarkable aspects. For example, women poor (51 pounds of wealth) and men poor (57.5 pounds of wealth) were the poorest among the poor. This situation is a sign that the concept of "feminalization of poverty" which expresses that poverty is deeper among women today has existed in the past.

Unlocking The Doors On The History Of Women’s Poverty A Social View Of Women’s Poverty In The Second Half Of The 18th Century-

Abstract:

Poverty – with reference to the lowest layers of social hierarchies - can be defined as not having sufficient resources and income. In recent years, together with the increase in gender studies, the conceptualization of female poverty, which emphasizes the gender differences in the ways women experience poverty, has started to be used by researchers. This concept differentiates between the poverty experiences of women and those of men, depending on their role and status in society. The main focus of this study is the poverty experiences of women who lived in Diyarbekir in the second half of the 18th century. In the present study, it was observed that the houses in which these women lived were generally dilapidated affairs and their clothing was worn out. It was also observed that these women (with average assets of 51 piastre) constituted the poorest people among society since they experienced poverty more intensely than poor men (average assets of 57.5 piastre). This shows that the phenomenon of “the feminization of poverty”, which signifies that poverty is experienced more in women than in men, also existed in the past.
