Lozan’dan sonra Türkiye’nin dış politikası barış üzerine inşa edilmiş ve hem komşu, hem de Batılı devletlerle iyi ilişkiler kurulmaya çalışılmıştır. Bu dönemde Türkiye bölgesel anlaşmalar yaparak sınır güvenliğini garanti altına almaya çalışmıştır. Türkiye, II. Dünya Savaşı devam ederken müttefik ve miğfer devletleri tarafından savaşa dâhil edilmeye zorlanmıştır. Ancak Türkiye izlediği politika sayesinde savaş dışında kalmayı başarmıştır. 1944 yılında savaşın sonucu belli olmuştur. ABD’nin savaşa ağırlığını koyması müttefiklere zaferi getirmiştir. Mağlubiyete uğrayan totaliter rejimler savaş sonunda yıkılmaya başlamıştır. Galipler savaş kazanımlarını paylaşmadan Türkiye tavrını ve tarafını ortaya koymuştur. Türkiye, Sovyet tehdidinin uluslararası alanda kendini hissettirmesinden rahatsızlık duymaktadır. Aslında bu durum 14 Mayıs 1950’de yapılan seçimlerle iktidara gelecek olan Demokrat Parti’nin de dış politika anlayışının temellerini oluşturmuştur. Demokrat Parti iktidarı döneminin dış politikasına bakıldığında Sovyetler’in yayılmacı hareketlerine karşı ittifaklar oluşturmaya çalıştığı görülmektedir. Bu ittifaklar Batılı devletlerin de desteğini almıştır. Ancak söz konusu ittifaklar istenilen başarıyı tam olarak sağlayamamış ve dağılmıştır. Kıbrıs sorunu dönemin dış politikasını meşgul eden bir diğer konudur. Sorunun çözülmesi adına toplanan Londra Konferansı, tarafların tam olarak anlaşamamasından ve 6/7 Eylül olaylarının patlak vermesinden dolayı dağılmak zorunda kalmıştır.
After Lausanne, Turkey’s foreign policy was built on peace and tried to establish good relations with both neighboring and Western states. Turkey tried to guarantee border security by making regional agreements in this period. While World War II was going on, Turkey was forced to be included by the allied and helmet states. However, Turkey stayed out of the war thanks to its policy. The USA brought victory to the allies, and the defeated totalitarian regimes started to collapse at the end of the war. Turkey revealed its stance and side before the victors stated their war gains. Turkey is uncomfortable with the Soviet threat. This situation formed the basis of the foreign policy understanding of the Democratic Party, which will come to power with the elections held on May 14, 1950. When we look at the foreign policy of the Democratic Party rule, it is seen that Turkey is trying to form alliances against the Soviet expansionist movements. These alliances also received the support of Western states. However, these alliances did not achieve the desired success and disintegrated. The Cyprus problem is another issue that occupied the foreign policy of the period. The London Conference, which was convened to solve the problem, had to dissolve due to the inability of the parties to fully agree and the outbreak of the 6/7 September events.
