Abstract:

The type and the amount of energy consumption in public buildings with different functions especially in health facilities, basically vary due to heating, cooling, lighting and air conditioning requirements. The combination of parameters for micro-climatic conditions do not occur in optimum range of values, which provide climatic comfort conditions and minimum energy consumption since passive strategies are ignored during the design and construction phase in most existing health facilities. For this reason, energy consumption patterns and quantities for different types of existing public healthcare buildings have to be determined and the options and priorites for the changes or refurbishment of building envelope, electrical and mechanical appliances should be analysed. Refurbishment processes on opaque and transparent surfaces of building envelopes are the primary strategies that would make contributions to the reduction of the amount of energy required for heating, cooling and air conditioning and achieving appropriate climatic comfort conditions. In this study, refurbishment strategies which can be applied on the building envelope for increasing energy efficiency in the existing public health facilities and architectural applications that have already been completed in existing state hospitals are examined by focusing on 45 Bed Malatya Yeşilyurt Hasan Çalık State Hospital that is constructed in 2018 and included both new building addition and existing building modifications.
