Triantaphyllo Constantine Ladakis (Τριανταφύλλο Κωνσταντίνος Λαδάκης, 1876–1947) was an Ottoman-Greek born in Moudros (Lemnos). He was apprenticed to pharmacies in Suez, Egypt, during his attendance to secondary school there. Subsequently, he entered the School of Pharmacy of the American University of Beirut (AUB), and received his Phar.M. degree in 1901 following a final examination in Istanbul. In the same year, T.C. Ladakis was appointed instructor in Theory and Practice of Pharmacy, and Analytical Chemistry at the AUB Medical Faculty and the Schools of Pharmacy and Dentistry. He became adjunct professor at his university in 1904. In the beginning of 1907, Prof. Ladakis travelled to the United States for postgraduate studies at Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. He presented a thesis (inaugural essay) for the degree of Doctor in Pharmacy (Phar.D.) on “Pharmacy in Turkey” in the May of 1908. This concise, 25-page handwritten text covers the following headings: Requirements as to the Practice of Pharmacy in Turkey; Pharmaceutical Schools in Turkey; The Practice of Pharmacy; Prescriptions; Chemicals; Pharmacy Law, Drugs prohibited to be imported, manufactured or sold in Turkey, including an appendix of prescriptions, labels, vignets, etc., from various pharmacies in the Levant. Dr. Pharm. Triantaphyllo Ladakis became full professor of Pharmacy and Analytical Chemistry at the AUB in 1909. He was the Director of the School of Pharmacy from 1920 until his retirement in 1941. He published a textbook in analytical chemistry, and is known to have made presentations on the state of pharmacy in Syria and Egypt, expansions of his thesis under review.
