Abstract:

This randomized controlled study was aimed at comparing the effectiveness of therapeutic pulse ultrasound and paraffin therapy with local steroid injection in lateral epicondylitis. The patient diagnosed with thirty-six lateral epicondylitis was randomly divided into two groups of 18 persons. When the 1st group was given local steroid injection, the 2nd group was given pulse ultrasound and paraffin treatment. Patients were evaluated at the beginning, in the 3rd week and 6th week. The pain levels in the beginning and follow-up were questioned with the Visual Analog Scale and Likert Scale in rest and activity. In the controls; the development of pain with the arm extension against pressure and resistance, the stretching power of the hand, the global assessment of the patient and the doctor was recorded. At the end of the treatment, both groups observed a decrease in all the pain parameters and an increase in the ability to catch the hand. There were no significant differences between the groups in terms of the healing detected in the 3rd and 6th weeks. Lateral epicondylite steroid injection and ultrasound paraffin treatments can be used effectively. Steroid injection, which is cheap and practical for rapid pain reduction, can be preferred.
