Lesions with keratinized protrusions at the teat are defined as hyperkeratosis. These lesions are generally observed in dairy cows during the lactation period. Although different factors have a role in its formation; It is one of the long lasting changes that the milking machine creates on the udder depending on milking. There are different degrees, called light rings, rings, very distinctive rings. It has effects on udder health, milk quality and animal welfare. The incidence and degree of hyperkeratosis can be evaluated as a measure of performance in the management of the herd. For this reason, the periodic checks, maintenance and part replacement of the milking machine must be done on time. In addition, it is very important to provide training for the personnel working in milking to increase the udder health and milking knowledge levels. In this review, it is aimed to give up-to-date, general and specific information about teat hyperkeratosis that occurs over time as a complication of milking in cows.
