Abstract:

Cities are multifunctional central settlements that are man-made, where the space is designed by human hands and where many people live together, mostly carrying human feelings. Everything has a meaning in this built environment. Buildings are the most important element of this built environment. They have individual names and meanings. Streets and streets are formed by buildings arrangement. Undoubtedly, street and street names are also meaningful. Street and street names mean different things. In this respect, historical and geographical features come first. It is possible to classify road and street names. In this study, the typology of road and street names in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is made. Road and street names are taken from Google Earth. The study describes streets, as streets, squares, and roads. The classification made is based on the Aliağaoğlu & Uzun classification. As a result, the classification that emerged depending on the country’s own characteristics was made. The Northern Cyprus Turkish State (NCTR) roads and streets typology is discussed under eight headings. These can be listed as republic streets, personal streets, place-direction streets, martyrs street, motherland streets, Ottoman streets, digital streets, and other streets. Urban toponymity has been influenced by racial similarities between Turkey and Cyprus. There are also differences.
