Abstract The intention in this text is to apprehend the child subjects in their displacements or the displacements of their families and how, in some way, these processes were constituted. It is, in a way, an autobiographical reflection, as it is based on the marks that the presence of the immigrant children, or of the daughters and sons of immigrants, left in the research I carried out. We tried to point out how the theme was treated in sociological and historical studies, as well as by the Brazilian federal government and by the São Paulo State. Considering that in the many migratory flows to Brazil several children came, we tried to verify the situation with respect to children in the 19th century and in the first decades of the 20th century, when, although “invisible”, they were “dangerous” but “necessary”. We observed the repercussions on children's experiences in the tense nationalist period and in World War II, from 1930 to 1950, and the restrictions that fell on them. Finally, we reflected on the post-war period, with the arrival of new immigrants and the development of new projects for children.
