İbn Meymūn, Fransa’nın Montpellier şehrinden kendisine gönderilen bir dizi soruya cevap olarak astroloji konusundaki görüşlerini kaleme aldığı bir mektup yazmıştır. İbn Meymūn, bu mektubunda astrolojinin boş ve yalanlardan ibaret bir meşgale olduğunu ve ondan kesinlikle uzak durulması gerektiğini belirtmektedir. Ona göre astroloji, insanları putperestliğe götüren tehlikeli bir uğraştır. İbn Meymūn, gök cisimlerine kudret atfetmenin Tanrı düşüncesine zarar vereceğini vurgulamaktadır. O, benzer şekilde bu düşüncenin özgür irade fikrine aykırı olduğunu belirtmektedir. İbn Meymūn’a göre astroloji, Yahudi inancına aykırı bir çaba olup astrolojiyle meşgul olmak ve ona göre planlar yapmak bir sapkınlıktır. Bu çalışmada İbn Meymūn’un astroloji mektubuna dair kısa bilgilendirme yapılarak mektubun Türkçe tercümesi sunulacaktır. Böylelikle Orta Çağ’da farklı din mensupları arasında hararetli tartışmalara sebep olan astroloji konusu, Orta Çağ’ın en büyük Yahudi alimi İbn Meymūn’un kendi metninden takip edilebilecektir.
Ibn Meymūn wrote a letter in which he received his views on astrology in response to a series of questions sent to him from the city of Montpellier. Ibn Meymūn pointed out in this letter that astrology is an empty and lies, and that it must definitely be avoided from it. According to him, astrology is a dangerous task that leads people to putperestity. Ibn Meymūn emphasizes that giving power to the heavenly bodies will harm the thought of God. He also points out that this thought is contrary to the idea of free will. According to Ibn Meymūn, astrology is an effort contrary to the Jewish belief, and it is a misconduct to be engaged in astrology and to make plans according to it. In this study, a brief information about the astrological letter of Ibn Meymūn will be presented in the Turkish translation of the letter. Thus, the subject of astrology, which in the Middle Ages caused harsh discussions among different religious members, can be followed by the text of Ibn Meymūn, the greatest Jewish scientist of the Middle Ages.

In this letter, Maimonides states that astrology is an empty and false occupation and should be avoided. According to him, astrology is a dangerous occupation that leads people to idolatry. Maimonides emphasizes that attributing power to celestial bodies will harm the idea of God. Similarly, he states that this idea is contrary to the idea that human beings have the right to choose with their free will. According to Maimonides, astrology is an effort contrary to the Jewish belief, and it is an act of heresy to engage in astrology and make plans accordingly. In this study, brief information about Maimonides’ astrology letter will be given and the Turkish translation of the letter will be presented. Thus, the subject of astrology, which caused heated debates among members of different religions in the Middle Ages, can be followed from the own text of Maimonides, the greatest Jewish scholar of the Middle Ages.
