Özet:

It is aimed at this study to introduce Muhaḳab al-dīn b. Hubal of Akhlatshahs and chapters related to surgical and medical treatment of spine traumas in his treatment Kitāb al-Mukhtārāt fī al-ibb that was written in 1164/5, and to discuss its importance in history of medicine. It was used a printed copy of Kitāb al-Mukhtārāt fī al-ibb in the library of Ankara University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of History of Medicine and Ethics. Its chapters related to spine traumas were translated into Turkish. Quotations of the original writing were presented in the text. Results were compared to the relevant literature and investigated the place in the history of medicine. It is understood that Muhaḳab al-dīn b. Hubal was belonged to the then medical paradigm named humoral theory. However, he mainly has proposed like if the cyphosis developed before puberty, child would die, if a child was dried early, cyphosis would be developed or suggestions in a therapeutic manner like traction in cyphosis according to the Hippocratic doctrine; it can be seen also some clues as against this strong author in his book. His determination that spinal cord injury was the main predictor of the course of spine traumas is important. Kitāb al-Mukhtārāt fī al-ibb of Muhaḳab al-dīn b. Hubal is located an important place in the history of treatment of spine trauma by its accordance with the then medical paradigm and also by its specific contribution and objections.
