Abstract:

Considered one of the pioneers of abstract art, Dutch painter Piet Mondrian’s art covering the years 1895-1944 includes periods such as Naturalism, Modernist, Cubism and Neoplasticism. In 1895, with the influence of artist such as Van Gogh, he started to work on landscape themes, and in 1912, inspired by Cubism, he reduced colors and lines and turned to simplicity. Since 1917, he has captured his own style with Theosophy philosophy, which combines the doctrine of antique and modern thought such as mystical, philosophical and religious thought. The aim of this study is to examine Piet Mondrian’s art in four periods and to reveal its relationship with Theosophical philosophy. In this direction, qualitative research method was used by scanning the works of artists and literature. As a result, it cannot be said that the philosophy of Theosophy alone was effective on Piet Mondrian art, because Mondrian art is a complex art created by feeding from many styles. However, it can be said that there is a strong deep relationship between Mondrian art and Theosophy philosophy, using a common language and theme.
