Abstract:

Medical tourism has an important gap between its contribution to the country’s economy and the variety of health tourism. Istanbul has a serious impact on this. It is believed that it is important to develop the potential of Istanbul in medical tourism, especially in private hospitals, and to reveal the state of the sector in order to be more effective in medical tourism activities in public hospitals. In this context, interviews were conducted with the hospital managers and the public hospital doctors/assistents. The medical tourism potential of Istanbul was also evaluated by SWOT analysis with the survey conducted with doctors. The important results of the research have determined that the support provided to is effective and that the support is expected to continue to be provided, and that the industry needs professional intermediate institutions. Public hospitals need acceleration of physical healing for effective medical tourism activities and training for medical workers for foreign language training. According to the SWOT analysis results, the health services offered in Istanbul are cheaper than other countries, while the most important opportunity for Istanbul is the most important threat element of terror events in Istanbul. *This article was published in Afyonkarahisar from 17 to 21 October 2018.
