Abstract:

The aim of this study is to examine foreign trade between Turkey and 51 African countries. For this purpose, data related to the GDP of Turkey covering the 2004-2020 period, GDP of the partner country, the distance between the countries and the search statistical variables of the word "Turkey" made through Google Trends Topics in the partner country have been used. Furthermore, the opening of the embassy to the partner country, the launch of THY’s flight and the opening of business councils are included as a doll variable in the model. According to the results of the Poisson Pseudo Maximum Probability (PPML) estimate; the GDP of Turkey, the GDP of the partner country and the search statistics of the word "Turkey" in the partner country have a positive impact on the volume of foreign trade while the effect of the distance variable is negative. It has also been found that all doll variables have a positive impact on the volume of trade.
