Abstract:

The founders of the new Turkish state made attempts to transition to a multi-party system in Turkey with the republican regime to establish the understanding of popular sovereignty, but the lack of maturity in democratic culture delayed the existence of multiple parties. Along with internal dynamics after World War II, the victory of democratic countries accelerated the transition to a multi-party system in Turkey, and Democratic Party came to power in the first elections where public will was reflected in the ballot box with free elections in 1950. As Turkey entered a new era with DP, elected parlamentarian of this new era also contributed to the development of democracy and the country’s development with their services to both their countries and hometowns.  In this study, the parliamentary activities of Çanakkale deputies during the DP period were examined according to TBMM Proceedings journal, archive documents, and Çanakkale newspapers, and their contributions to the development of the country and Çanakkale as well as democracy were discussed.
