Özet:

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, Ankara’da bulunan engelli okullarına devam etmekte olan 93 engelli öğrencinin demografik özelliklerini, ağız diş sağlığı durumunu ve ağız sağlığı alışkanlıklarını ortaya koymaktır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Bu çalışmaya, Ankara’da engelliler okullarına devam eden 93 engelli öğrenci dahil edilmiştir. Veri elde etmek amacıyla ağız içi muayenenin yanısıra daha önce denenmiş ve kişisel bilgileri içermeyen bir anket formu veri elde etmek amacıyla kullanılmıştır.  Anket, diş hekimliği fakültesinde son sınıfta okuyan öğrenciler tarafından yapılmıştır. Anketteki sorular, öğrencilerin sosyo - demografik özelliklerini, diş hekimine gitme sıklığını, oral hijyen araçlarının kullanımını, ve ağız sağlığı durumunu değerlendirmektedir. Muayene esnasında DMFT/DMFS ve dmft/dmfs değerleri hesaplanmıştır. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde, sıklık dağılımının yanı sıra, ANOVA, t- tesi, Ki-kare ve Fisher’s Exact Test kullanılmıştır. P<0.05 olduğunda anlamlı kabul edilmiştir. Bulgular: Çalışmaya, yaş ortalaması 12.92 yıl olan, 42 (%45,2)’si kız, 51 (%54,8)’i erkek toplam 93 engelli öğrenci katılmıştır. Öğrencilerin %71’i gündeaz 1 defa dişini fırçaladığını bildirmiştir. An anonymous and structured questionnaire, including demographic characteristics, frequency of dental visits/tooth brushing, using of oral hygiene tools and oral health status was used to obtain the data. The questionnaire was implemented by the 5th grade students of the School of Dentistry. DMFT/DMFS and dmft/dmfs were calculated during the oral examination. The data were analyzed by age, sex and educational status, oral health status/habits using frequency distribution, ANOVA, t- test, chi-square test, fisher’s exact test. P value was set at 0.05 Results: A total of 93 participants comprising 42 girls (45.2%) and 51 boys (54.8%) with mean age was 12.92 years attended in this study. 71.0% of the participants reported to brush their teeth at least once a day.  There were no significant differences in respect to frequency of tooth brushing and dental visit, eat a snack and skip meals (p=0.724, p=0.273, p=0.357, p=0.365, respecti- vely) by sex. However there was a significant relationship between the age and DMFS, dmft ve dmft scores (p=0.025, p=0.003, p=0.022, respectively). These scores increased with the increased age. Conclusion: The increase in DMFS was found to be significant (p = 0.025) while the increase in DMFT was not found to be significant (p = 0.111). Considering that frequency of daily tooth brushing was no more than once a day, preventive treatments have an important role in oral health maintenance of disabled children, who are in the high risk group for oral health. Özet:

The aim of this study is to reveal the demographic characteristics of 93 disabled students who are ongoing to their disabled schools in Ankara, their oral and dental health status and their oral health habits. Tools and Methods: This study included 93 disabled students who are ongoing to the disabled schools in Ankara. For the purpose of obtaining data, in addition to oral examination, a previously tested and non-personal information survey form was used for the purpose of obtaining data.  The survey was carried out by students studying in the last class at the Faculty of Dentistry. Questions in the survey assess the socio-demographic characteristics of students, the frequency of going to the dentist, the use of oral hygiene tools, and the state of oral health. The DMFT/DMFS and dmft/dmfs are calculated during the examination. In the assessment of the data, as well as frequency distribution, ANOVA, t-tesi, Ki-tesi and Fisher's Exact Test were used. P<0.05 is accepted meaningfully. Results: In the study, the average age of 12.92 years, 42 (45.2%) girls, 51 (54.8%) men and a total of 93 disabled students participated. 71% of students that they washed their teeth once a day. There was no meaningful relationship between the girl’s toothbrush habits, the frequency of visiting the dentist and the eating and eating habits between meals (respectively; p=0.724, p=0.273, p=0.357, p=0.365). As the age of students increased, the relationship between the increased values of DMFS, dmft and dmft was statistically meaningful (respectively; p=0.025, p=0.003, p=0.022). The result: The increase in the DMFT value is not meaningful with the age of students (p=0.111) while the increase in the DMFS value is not meaningful (p=0.025). Given the daily frequency of toothbrushing is 1 times a day, protective practices hold an important place in disabled students who are in the group of students at risk for oral health.
