Kimlik oluşumuna (inşasına) ilişkin yaklaşımlar incelendiğinde kimliğin çeşitli olgularla ilişkiselliği ön plana çıkmakta, kimliğin oluşumunda ilk bakışta modernizm/kimlik, postmodernizm ya da küreselleşme/kimlik, birey-toplum ilişkileri/kimlik, iktidar/kimlik ilişkileri ve benzeri üzerinden kuramsal inşa gerçekleştirilmektedir. Ancak bu olguların birbirinden keskin çizgilerle ayrılmasının pek mümkün olmadığı belirtilmelidir. Nasıl ki modernizmden postmodernizme geçişi keskin çizgilerle ayırmak çok mümkün görünmüyorsa, postmodernizm/kimlik ya da küreselleşme/kimlik ilişkilerini görmezden gelerek salt modernizm/kimlik ilişkiselliği üzerinden inşa edilecek bir kuramın yanlış olmasa da yetersiz olacağı aşikârdır. Yine aynı şekilde modernizm/kimlik ilişkileri bağlamında kurgulanan bir kimlik yaklaşımı bu çerçevede bilgi-iktidar/kimlik ilişkiselliğini de kapsamak ya da en azından bu bağlama değinmek durumundadır. Sosyoloji, felsefe, psikoloji, antropoloji gibi birden çok disiplinin ilgi alanına giren ve bir çok tanımıyla oldukça muğlak bir nosyon olan kimliği açıklamaya yönelik yaklaşımlar da, bu kaygan zeminde rahat hareket edebilecek esnekliğe sahip olabilmelidir. Bu kapsamda makalede kimliğin inşasına ilişkin temel yaklaşımlar ele alınmış son başlıkta konunun Türkiye bağlamına kısaca değinilmiştir.
