Abstract:

Yavuz, which was included in the Ottoman State Navy right before World War I, is an unforgettable army that has a memorable place in Turkish history. This weapon, which gave power to the Ottoman State with its very critical time, has gained power and prestige to the state as well as with its activities during the war. This study provides information on the following topics: the process of Yavuz's transition to the Ottoman State, the activities during the First World War, the damages it received during these activities, what was done for repair, the impact of the repair on the Turkish-Greek relations and, finally, the post-repair situation. Yavuz, which the Greeks saw as a war threat during the repair process, was one of the leading representatives of the peace policy and policy of the Republic of Turkey after the repair, contrary to fear.

Abstract:

Yavuz that was included in the navy of the Ottoman State just before the World War I., is an unforgettable armour ship with a distinguished place in Turkish history. This armour ship, which provided power to the Ottoman State with its presence at a very critical time, gave the state power and prestige with its activities during and after the war. In this study, we have been informed about the following subjects; Yavuz’s transition process to the Ottoman State, activities during World War I., damages caused during these activities, constructions for repair, effect of reparation on Turkish-Greek relations and finally condition after repair. Yavuz, whom the Greeks saw as a war threat in the repair process, after being repaired, contrary to fear, has been one of the leading representatives of the Republic of Turkey’s peace politics and policy.
