Abstract:

Vahdi İbrahim Efendi (d. 1126/1714) was a scholar who had many works in Arabic language and literature. He studied the words of the Prophet Muhammad. At the same time, he was a judge. He was also a famous calligrapher who copied many of his works himself. Four of her twenty-five known works are hilyes. Three of these works are in Arabic and one is in Turkish. The Turkish work called Terceme-i Hilye-i Şerif of these has been examined here. This prose work has been evaluated in terms of its form, content, date of copying, copies and sources. At the end of our study, the transcribed text of this work is presented, which has been prepared based on the copy written by the author himself among the eleven copies. Additionally, in this study, by comparing Vahdi İbrahim Efendi's hilye with other hilye in prose form, it has been tried to determine the general characteristics of prose hilyes as a literary genre. Moreover, it is aimed to provide material for other studies on the tradition of translation of classical Turkish literature.
