Bir yerin kalkınması için var olan doğal ve beşeri kaynakların bilinmesi ve doğru bir şekilde kullanılması gerekmektedir. Beşeri kaynaklardan en önemlisi nüfus miktarı ve nitelikleridir. Bir ülke için hem nicelik hem de nitelik bakımından önemli olan nüfus dinamik bir yapıya sahiptir. Nüfusun miktarı, yoğunluğu, yaş gruplarına göre dağılımı ve cinsiyet yapısı gibi birçok özellik bir yerin demografik yapısını etkilemektedir. Cumhuriyetin ilanından günümüze kadar değişen ve gelişen koşullar çerçevesinde Edirne şehrinin nüfusu sürekli değişmiştir. Cumhuriyetin ilk yıllarında 34.528 olan nüfus, 2019 yılı itibariyle 172.802’ye ulaşmıştır. Şehrin nüfusu; bulunduğu coğrafi konum, taşıdığı ilkim şartları, tarıma yönelik ekonomisi ve İstanbul’a yakınlığıyla sahip olduğu ulaşım imkânları doğrultusunda şekillenmiştir. Bu çalışmayla Edirne şehrinin geçmişten günümüze nüfusunun gelişimi ve yapısal özelliklerinin değerlendirilmesi yapılmıştır. Bu doğrultuda şehir nüfusu Cumhuriyet öncesi ve sonrası (1927-2019) dönemlerini kapsayan gelişmelerle birlikte değerlendirilmiştir.
It is necessary to know and properly use the natural and human resources that exist for the development of a place. The most important of human resources is the number and qualities of the population. The population, which is important for a country both in terms of quantity and quality, has a dynamic structure. Many characteristics, such as population quantity, intensity, age distribution and gender structure, affect the demographic structure of a place. In the framework of the conditions that have changed and evolved from the declaration of the Republic to the present day, the population of the city of Edirne has constantly changed. In the first years of the Republic, the population of 34.528 was 172.802 in 2019. The population of the city has been shaped according to its geographical location, its primary conditions, its agricultural economy and its transportation possibilities with its proximity to Istanbul. This study has made an assessment of the development and structural characteristics of the population of Edirne from the past to the present. In this direction, the city population has been evaluated along with the developments covering the periods before and after the Republic (1927-2019) .
For the development of a place, natural and human resources must be known and used properly. The most important of human resources is the amount and qualities of the population. Many features such as the population size, density, distribution by age groups and gender structure affect the demographic structure of a place. The population of Edirne City has constantly changed within the framework of changing and developing conditions since the proclamation of the Republic. The population, which was 34.528 in the first years of the Republic, has reached 172.802 by 2019. The population of the city; has been shaped in line with the geographical location it is located, its climate conditions, it’s economy for agriculture and its transportation facilities. With this study, the development of the population of Edirne City from past to present and its structural features were evaluated. Accordingly, the city population will be evaluated with the developments covering the periods before and after the Republic (1927-2019).
