Abstract:

Street racing has become one of the most popular sports in Brazil and in the world. The growing number of practitioners, which has been increasing significantly in recent years, can be associated with the search for improvement in physical conditioning and especially health. The aim of this study is to identify the nutritional status and food intake of a group of street runners from Itajaí-SC. For this, the body composition of each runner was evaluated by means of the measurement of skinfolds by the Durnin and Womersley protocol and identified the percentage of fat and lean mass of the participants. To evaluate food intake, the 24-hour recall was applied, and both data were analyzed using the Webdiet® software. The sample consisted of 15 individuals of both sexes aged between 25 and 60 years. It was observed that most of the participants presented a low percentage of caloric adequacy (less than 61%), that is, they were in caloric deficit.  Regarding the consumption of macronutrients, most participants (n=11) had low carbohydrate intake, and adequate consumption of proteins (n=14) and lipids (n=11). On the analysis of the body composition of the runners evaluated, it was verified that the major numer os runners demonstrated levels above the recommended percentage of body fat mass. It is concluded that although they participated in a running group and presented low caloric and carbohydrate intake, the vast majority had high fat percentage, results that could be justified by the search for change in body composition and weight loss.
