Introduction and Target: The frequency of sleep problems increases with age. Symptoms of anxiety and depression can affect the sleep architecture. The aim of this study is to study the relationship between anxiety and depression levels and quality of sleep and the severity of insomnia in patients with geriatric depression accompanied by anxiety symptoms from the psychiatric clinic. Method and requirements: 53 patients aged 60 and over were included in the study. Patients were applied the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDÖ), Beck Anxiety Scale (BAÖ), the Insomnia Intensity Index (USI), the Short Mind Examination (KAM) and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PUKI). The result is that the total GDP score of PUKI is the quality of sleep (p=0.018) and the sleep latence (p=0). A statistically significant relationship was found in the positive direction between the 006 and the BAO and PUKI subjective sleep quality (p=0.043), sleep latence (p=0.009), sleep disorder (p=0.012), day function disorder (p=0.045) and global PUKI (p=0.049) in the positive direction. A statistically meaningful relationship between the total ISI score and the total ISI score (p=0.002) and the ISI subscale (p=0.002) and the BAO score and the total ISI score (p=0.001) and the ISI subscale (p=0.006) was found in a positive direction. This study has shown that sleep disorders in patients with geriatric depression are closely related to anxiety and depression levels. The increase in sleep quality disorders and the severity of insomnia that occur with ageing can increase the frequency and severity of newly formed depressive disorders, while the present anxiety and depressive symptoms can also cause sleep disorders.
