Tarihsel süreç içerisinde çocuğun toplum içerisindeki ve yasalar önündeki konumu büyük bir değişim göstermiştir. İlk çağda alınıp satılabilen köle olan çocuk, Orta çağda küçük yetişkin olarak kabul edilmiş ve yetişkinlerden beklenen görevleri yerine getirmeleri kendilerinden beklenmiştir. Rönesans ve reform hareketlerinin yol açtığı aydınlanma çağı çocuğa karşı hümanist yaklaşımın benimsenmesini sağlamış ancak çocukluğun yetişkinlikten farklı biyolojik bir evre olduğu ve çocukların yetişkinler tarafından korunup gözetilmesi gereken haklarının bulunduğu düşüncesinin yaygınlaşması 19. ve 20. yüzyıllarda mümkün olmuştur. Çocuk haklarının korunması amacıyla pek çok uluslararası anlaşma ve yasal düzenleme bulunmaktadır. Ancak çocuğun medyada temsili esnasında bilhassa haber yazım ve sunum sürecinde çocuğun özel konumunun dikkate alınmasını amaçlayan çocuk odaklı habercilik yaklaşımının medya ortamlarında sıklıkla göz ardı edildiği bilinmektedir. Bu bağlamda geleceğimizin mimarı olan çocukların medyada nasıl konumlandırıldığının tespit edilmesi bu çalışmanın temel amacını oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmanın evrenini yazılı basın, örneklemini ise Sözcü, Sabah ve Hürriyet gazeteleri oluşturmaktadır. Çalışma kapsamında çocuk konulu haberlerin medyada temsiline ilişkin örnekleme dahil edilen üç gazete 01.02.2020-01.03.2020 tarihleri arasında bir aylık süre boyunca incelenmiştir. Çalışma sonucunda örnekleme dahil edilen gazetelerde belirlenen tarih aralığında çocuk konulu toplam 183 haber bulunduğu, çocuk konulu haberlerin 129’unun olumsuz, 54’ünün ise olumlu olduğu; çocukların daha çok polis-adliye, kaza ve istismar konulu haberlerde konumlandırıldığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
In the historical process, the position of child in society and in laws has changed greatly. The child, who was a slave that could be bought and sold in early ages, was accepted as a minor adult in the Middle Ages, and they were expected to fulfill the duties that were expected from adults.The age of enlightenment caused by the Renaissance and reform movements enabled the adoption of a humanistic approach to children, but the idea that childhood is a different biological stage from adulthood and that children have rights that should be protected by adults became possible in the 19th and 20th centuries. There are many international agreements and legal regulations for the protection of children's rights. However, it is known that the child-oriented journalism approach, aiming to take the special position of the child into consideration during the representation of the child in the media, especially in the news writing and presentation process, is often overlooked in media environments. In this context, determining how children, who are the architects of our future, are positioned in the media constitutes the main purpose of this study. The print media is the universe of the study, while the sample is Sözcü, Sabah and Hürriyet newspapers. Within the scope of the study, three newspapers included in the sample regarding the representation of news about children in the media were examined for a period of one month between 01.02.2020 and 01.03.2020. As a result of the study, there were total 183 news about children within the specified date range in the newspapers included in the sample, 129 of the news about children were negative and 54 were positive; it was concluded that children were mostly positioned in the news about police-courthouse, accident and abuse.
