Abstract:

The primary objective of this study is to develop a scale to investigate the attitudes of the Turkish society towards euthanasia. The sample of the study consists of 293 individuals over the age of 18 who participated voluntarily. The scale development process followed a series of stages including literature review, drafting a sample survey, obtaining expert opinions, pilot testing, and data collection from the population. Data were evaluated with exploratory factor and confirmatory factor analyses. SPSS and AMOS software packages were employed for data analysis. According to the findings of the exploratory factor analysis, it was observed that the scale was gathered in 38 expressions and 5 dimensions. It was determined that the reliability coefficients of the scale and its sub-dimensions are good and adequate. In the confirmatory factor analysis, it was identified that the scale fit levels were at a good level. Furthermore, it was observed that item load values were at an adequate level. On the other hand, due to the CR and AVE values being at the desired level, it was seen that the model was valid. It was determined that the scale developed to determine the society's attitude towards euthanasia is valid and reliable. It was concluded that the scale consists of 38 expressions and five different dimensions, namely positive attitude, negative attitude, penal attitude, opportunistic attitude, and cultural attitude.
