Türkiye, II. Dünya Savaşı´na aktif olarak katılmamıştır. Karşılıklı saldırmazlık ve güvenlik taahhütleri içeren antlaşmalar imzalayarak uzun süre savaşın dışında kalmıştır. Mihver Devletlerinin mağlubiyetinin iyice kesinleştiği ve yeni bir dünya düzeninin kurulması yönünde adımlar atıldığı bir dönemde de Almanya ve Japonya´ya savaş ilan ederek bu politikasını terk etmiştir. Bu çalışmada Türkiye´nin savaş ilanının basındaki yankıları çeşitli ulusal ve yabancı basından istifade ederek değerlendirilecektir. Çalışmanın amacı Türkiye´nin savaş ilanı kararını destekleyen ve haklılığını ortaya koymaya çalışan Türk basını ile Türkiye´nin savaş ilanını olumlu bulmakla birlikte genel olarak Türkiye´nin II. Dünya Savaşı´nda izlediği politikaya ilişkin eleştirel tutumu elden bırakmayan yabancı basın arasında oluşan açıyı ortaya koymaktır.
