Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the attitudes of physical education and sports teachers towards the profession, the level of benefit for leisure time involvement and recreational activities. The population of the research consists of 97 physical education and sports teachers working in the province of Bartın in the 2018-2019 academic year, while the sample group consists of 84 (65 male and 19 female) physical education and sports teachers. Personal information form prepared by the researcher, Attitudes towards Teaching Profession Scale (TAMS), "Leisure Time Involvement Scale (SCIÖ)" and "Recreation Benefit Scale" were used as data collection tools in the study. Frequency, percentage distribution, independent sample t-Test, single factor analysis of variance ANOVA and Pearson Correlation analyzes were used in the analysis of the data. The level of significance calculated for the equality of variances was accepted as p<0.05. In the findings of the study, no significant difference was found in the total mean scores of SCIAS, SCI and RFS according to the variables of gender, age, professional seniority and leisure time. While the participants found a low and positive relationship between SCIQ and SCI, and a low and positive significant relationship between SCIAS and SCI, a moderate and positive significant relationship was found between SCIQ and RFI. As a result, it can be said that the increase in the attitude level of physical education and sports teachers towards the profession also increases the level of attitude obtained from leisure and recreational activities.
