Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to reveal the current status of the geometric level of understanding of primary, secondary and bachelor's students in Turkey, based on the results of the research carried out, with the meta-sentez method. In this study between 1999-2014 years in Turkey, 36 master and doctoral theses prepared using the qualitative or quantitative research methods, which will be able to serve the purpose of this meta-synthetic study in the framework of the inclusion and exclusion processes, which includes "Van Hiele Geometric Thought Level determination test" in all the teaching stages, 20 scientific articles were taken into the research scope. Students in all the samples discussed in the study found that Van Hiele's geometric thinking levels were quite low. It has been found that primary, secondary and undergraduate students are unable to reach the geometric thinking levels they need to have. Study findings on different teaching stages and age groups show that students’ geometric thinking levels may not depend on age or maturity, but may more depend on their geometric experiences.
