Migrations always have significant impact on a city’s identity. The last ring of migrations from the Balkans that began with Treaty of Berlin in 1878 has been the Migration of 89. Bulgarian Turks, just like all the other populations exposed to severe difficulties in the surrounding region, began to migrate to Anatolia about 134 years ago. In this process, nearly 1.8 million people came to Anatolia. Due to its geographical location, Balıkesir is undoubtedly one of the places where most immigrants came settle. In this study, the 89 migration is discussed in the scale of Balikesir. Dealt with in a holistic way, the topic is complemented by the case of Balıkesir. Therefore, the effects of 89 Migration to Balıkesir tried to be thoroughly examined. As a result, Turks living in Bulgaria decided to migrate to the motherland as a response to the processes of Bulgarization. The interesting side of 89 Migration is population problem that emerged because of pressure from government, not from the Bulgarian side. This problem has been solved through the intense efforts of public servents in Balıkesir. Those who are successful in the process of adaptation were to get well-integrated with the local population. Of course, the reason why adaptation and acculturation took place in such a swift manner was due to the fact that both the settlers and the home populations shared the same language, religion and culture
