Abstract:

Cinema, unlike other art disciplines, has become a newer means of expression due to the century in which it emerged. This innovation did not create a disadvantage for cinema, but enabled it to reproduce the forms and languages of all disciplines. During this reproduction, cinema created a new language for itself. The emergence of this language has brought a new dimension to the narrative world. Elements such as character, time/space belonging to the narrative world have been transformed. Adaptation cinema has been important to examine this transformation comparatively. Director Aki Kaurismäki, the subject of this article, described the characters that exist in today's world with the adaptation films he made. With the adaptation of Hamlet, he benefited from the image of "Hamlet" formed in the mind of the audience. Thanks to these images, he has made those characters his own. Hamlet is no longer Shakespeare's Hamlet, but Kaurismäki's Hamlet.
