Abstract:

Words are language elements that carry the material and spiritual values of a language and play an important role in the preservation of these values. Being able to understand the structure of a language generally requires a good analysis of the “archaic words”, which contain the old features of that language’s sound, shape and vocabulary. Although different definitions of the word archaic, which is of French origin, are made with different sources, the common aspect of these definitions is that the words that are described as archaic have fallen out of use in the standard language today. In addition, archaic elements display a very rich appearance in terms of phonetics, morphology and vocabulary, and are extremely important in terms of revealing the changes and developments that the language has undergone throughout history. In other words, archaic words contain many clues in determining both the vocabulary and grammatical understanding of the language. Undoubtedly, dialects are the most important language element in which archaic words, which are out of use in the standard language, continue to exist. The fact that these words, which have fallen out of use in the standard language, continue their existence in dialects has brought dialects to an important place in language studies. In this context, Turkey Turkish dialects show a very rich appearance in terms of archaic elements in the historical development and course of the Turkish language. In the study, the dialects of Bayburt and its region, which are among the Eastern Group dialects of Turkey Turkish, used as settlements by many civilizations since the first periods of history and considered as one of the important settlements of the Coruh Valley, were evaluated in terms of archaic elements.
