OTO-ORYANTALİZM BAĞLAMINDA ATİYE DİZİSİ
2021

Abstract:

The link between autobiography and orientalism
2021
Author:
Abstract:

In Western texts, the Eastern definition has made the difference between "we" and "other" through verbal, hearing and visual media transmissions from the past to the present, and this difference has been reinforced. At the point of view, it is clear that in the Eastern texts, in particular in the Western media, the difference between "we" and "the others" is internalized in order to find a place and comply with the standards of contemporary Western narrative. Since Turkish television series have gained significant success in the world market in recent years, producers have aimed at the satisfaction of the target audience by using a lot of orientalist items that meet the expectations of the audience. The Atiye series for Netflix, rebuilding the Eastern fiction with the mind of orientalism with the hands of the bizatish Birds, makes an example of self-orientalism. Self-oryanticism or self-oryanticism can be generalized as the re-production of the East and the Origin in the speeches created by the West. The Atiye series, which metalizes its own culture and develops decor, music, clothes, and speech in accordance with the expectations of the West, normalizes a speech that is mysterious, dark, exotic and, most importantly, uncompatible with the cause-resultation relationship from the auto-oryantic perspective. The reason, such as magic, magic and/or prayer, is "unconsciously" described by the Eastern culture, while it makes it like it studies the history and regional languages, creating an Eastern image full of auto-oryantic elements. In this study, the Atiye series will be studied in theory and conceptual literature accompanied.

Atiye Series In The Context Of Self Orientalism
2021
Author:
Abstract:

The definition of Eastern in Western texts has created the distinction between "us" and "others" through verbal, auditory and visual media transmissions from the past to the present, and this distinction has been reinforced. At this point, it is seen that the distinction between "us" and "others" has been internalized in Eastern texts, especially in order to find a place in Western media and to comply with contemporary Western narrative norms. Since Turkish television series have gained significant success in the world market in recent years, the producers aimed to satisfy the target audience by using orientalist elements that meet the expectations of the Western audience. The Atiye series produced for Netflix sets a one-to-one example of self-orientalism by reconstructing the Eastern fiction that comes with the perception of orientalism, by the hand of the Easterners themselves. The series Atiye, which commodifies its own culture and develops decor, music, clothing and discourse in line with the expectations of the West, normalizes a mysterious, dark, exotic and most importantly incompatible discourse with a self-orientalist perspective. While pretending to examine Eastern culture, history and regional languages such as magic, magic and/or prayer, the cause of which is explained by "unknown", it creates an image of the East full of self-orientalist elements. In this study, Atiye series will be examined in the light of theoretical and conceptual literature.
