Introduction: the technical-tactical performance is extremely important for decisions made by a technical committee, through scout it is possible to analyze situations of games and training, so that the best choices are made before and during the games Objective: The objective of the present study was to analyze ball possession scouts and finalizations on victory in group games and qualifiers of the 2018 Football World Cup. Methods: 64 games of this competition were analyzed, including the group stage and eliminatory phase. The data were collected from the website of the International Football Federation (FIFA). The statistical treatment used was the Pearson correlation and the Student t test, using the statistical software SPSS 22 for Windows and the level of significance was set at p <0.05. Results: in relation to the variable possession of the ball, the teams classified in the group phase obtained a higher percentage of possession of the ball, in the eliminatory phase the predominance of possession of the ball was not decisive for the victory of the teams, on the other hand, the The finals-to-goal variable was predominantly higher for the winning teams both in the group stage and in the knockout phase. Conclusion: the predominance of ball possession is a determining condition for victory during the group stage, a result not evident in the knockout phase. The predominance of the team that performed the most number of finals proved decisive for the victory in both the group and eliminatory phases.
