Bu çalışmada Peyami Safa’nın incelenmek üzere seçilmiş olan Sözde Kızlar, Mahşer ve Fatih-Harbiye adlı eserleri, “biz” ve “öteki” kavramları bağlamında değerlendirilmeye çalışılacaktır. Buradaki amaç, eserlerdeki iki kutbu oluşturan bu kavramların neyi temsil ettiğinin belirtilmesi ve aralarındaki benzerlik ve farklılıkların yazarın üslubu, dünya ve edebi görüşünü nasıl yansıttığını karşılaştırmalı bir bakış ile irdelemektir. Peyami Safa’nın eserlerine bakıldığında, yazarın doğu-batı anlayışını ve alaturka ile alafranga eski ile yeni ve hatta iyi ile kötüyü okura iletmek için “biz” ve “öteki” kavramlarını sıklıkla kullanılmış olduğu görülür. Yazarın kullandığı “biz”in karşılığı Türkler, Müslümanlar ve Doğu’dur “öteki”nin karşılığı ise Avrupalılar, Batı ve Avrupalılara özenip kendi kimliklerini unutan Türklerdir. Bu noktada yazarın o dönemki Türk toplumunda yer alan Avrupa hayranı, batılılaşmayı yanlış yorumlayan Türklere karşı takındığı tavır da açıktır. Esasında Tanzimat Dönemi Edebiyatı’nda ilk örnekleri verilen Batılı anlamda roman örneklerinde yanlış batılılaşma ve onun yarattığı ikilemler sıklıkla kullanılan bir temadır. Bu nedenle o dönem romanlarının kurgularında batı hayranı züppe tip ile kendi değerlerini temsil eden daha mütevazı tipler hep karşı karşıya getirilir ve bu iki tip arasında tereddüt yaşayan kadın karakterler, yaşadıkları tereddüdün buhranlarının ardından alaturka olan tarafı seçer. İncelenecek olan eserlerin kurgularında bu tarz belirgin bir “biz” ve “öteki” kutbu dikkati çekmektedir. Özellikle “öteki” kavramı Peyami Safa tarafında okura doğru yolu göstermek ve yanlış tarafı temsil eden tiplerin acınası hallerini anlatmak amacıyla kullanılmaktadır.
Peyami Safa's works named So-called Girls, Mahşer and Fatih-Harbiye, which were determined to be examined, will be tried to be evaluated in the context of the concepts of "us" and "other". The purpose here is to specify what these concepts that make up the two poles in the works represent and to examine how the similarities and differences between them reflect the author's style, world and literary view with a comparative perspective. When we look at Peyami Safa's works, we see the author's understanding of east-west and Turkish and European style; It is seen that the concepts of "us" and "other" are frequently used to convey the old and the new, and even the good and the bad to the reader. The meaning of “we” used by the author is Turks, Muslims and the East; The counterpart of the “other” is the Europeans, the Turks who emulate the West and the Europeans and forget their own identity. At this point, the author's attitude towards the Turks who were fans of Europe and misinterpreted westernization in the Turkish society of that period is also clear. In fact, wrong westernization and the dilemmas created by it are a frequently used subject in the examples of novels in the Western sense, the first examples of which are given in the Tanzimat Period Literature. For this reason, in the fictions of the novels of that period, the snobby type who admires the west and the more modest types who represent their own values are always confronted, and the female characters who hesitate between these two types choose the Turkish side after the crises of hesitation. In the fictions of the works to be examined, such a distinct "us" and "other" pole draws attention. In particular, the concept of "other" is used by Peyami Safa to show the reader the right way and to explain the pathetic state of the types who represent the wrong side.
