Objective: This experimental and prospective research is planned to investigate the effect of education of pregnant women in childbirth education classes based on the philosophy of lamaze on perception and orientation of birth process. Material and Methods: It is conducted in a hospital in Istanbul between September 2010 and June 2011. Research process includes two phases. First phase of the research consists the education of the couples and the second phase focuses on the care and support of pregnant women between the beginning and the end of labor. Pregnant women participated to the education classes with their husbands or the person who will support them during the process of labor. Classes were included 4 to 7 couples. Duration of education was 4 weeks and they were educated 14 hours in total. Research group of the study consist 105 couples. 35 pregnant women that were supported and gave normal birth were constituted experiment group and 35 pregnant women that were consistent with the sample criteria constituted the control group. Control group was taken standard care. Conclusion: 56 of them gave vaginal normal birth and 49 of them gave cesarean birth. 35 pregnant women that were supported and gave normal birth were constituted experiment group. It was concluded that the pregnant women who were supported and attendant Lamaze childbirth education classes had better birth adaptation process and they had higher positive birth perception than control group members had (p<0.001).
