Abstract:

Being founded as a result of the desire of Turkey for a transition to a multi-party system, Serbest Cumhuriyet Fırkası was followed closely by Turkish press. In this study, the process starting from the foundation of Serbest Cumhuriyet Fırkası to its closing itself was followed upon the caricatures in the newspapers Cumhuriyet, Milliyet, Akşam, Hakimiyeti Milliye and Son Posta. Consequently, it was aimed at presenting a different perspective by analyzing the political incidents and political figures based on the caricatures. Except for one of the cartoons found in Cumhuriyet newspaper, ten of them were published in the newspaper with the signature of Ramiz (GÖKÇE). Except for one of the cartoons in the Akşam newspaper, the other eight were drawn by Cemal Nadir. Except for two of the cartoons in Milliyet newspaper, the other four were illustrated by Togo (KOZMA). All of the cartoons in the Son Posta newspaper were published in the Son Posta newspaper as unsigned.It was seen that the main themes of the caricatures in the newspapers Cumhuriyet, Milliyet and Akşam, which are within this study, showed similarities. On the other hand, it was witnessed that the caricatures in Son Posta newspaper the caricatures Serbest Cumhuriyet Fırkası and Cumhuriyet Halk Fırkası represented the same class and ideas. It was seen that the caricatures in Turkish press were drawn about general issues such as the foundation of SCF, İzmir demonstration, Municipal Elections in 1930 and the closing of SCF, they were drawn based on the ideas which the newspaper represented as well.
