BABY BOOMERS, X, Y, Z KUŞAKLARININ SOSYAL MEDYA KULLANIM DÜZEYLERİ VE TERCİHLERİ

Abstract:

Bu araştırma, Eskişehir İli Odunpazarı ve Tepebaşı ilçelerinde ikamet eden ve farklı kuşakları temsil ettiği kabul edilen bireylerin sosyal medya kullanım düzeyleri ve tercihlerini “süreklilik” ve “yetkinlik” boyutu açısından ele alan bir araştırmadır. Araştırmada tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Tarama modeli, çok sayıda elemanın oluşturduğu bir evrende, evren hakkında genel bir kanıya varmak amacıyla evrenin tamamı yahut ondan alınacak bir grup üzerinde yapılan tarama kodifikasyonudur (Karasar, 2012). Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu kent merkezinde yaşayan 877 kişi oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın verileri Deniz ve Tutgun-Ünal (2019) tarafından geliştirilen “Sosyal Medya Kullanımı Ölçeği” kullanılarak çevrimiçi ortamda toplanmıştır. Araştırmada elde edilen bulgular (1) Kuşaklar sosyal medya ağlarına erişimde en çok akıllı telefon kullanmaktadır. (2) BabyBoomer ve X kuşağı en çok Facebook’u kullanmayı tercih ederken, Y ve Z kuşağı ise en çok İnstagram’ı kullanmaktadır. (3) BabyBoomer, Y ve Z kuşakları sosyal medyada en fazla video ve müzik içeriklerini beğenirken, X kuşağı ise en fazla haber içeriklerini beğenmektedir.(4) Kuşaklar süreklilik ve yetkinlik boyutlarında sosyal medyayı orta düzeyde kullanmaktadır. (5) Y ve Z kuşağı, BabyBoomer ve X kuşağına göre sosyal medya kullanımında süreklilik sağlamakta ve kendilerini bu konuda daha yetkin bulmaktadırlar. (6) Z kuşağı kadınları aynı kuşakta bulunan erkeklere göre sosyal medya kullanımında süreklilik sağlayan cinsiyeti temsil etmektedir.

Abstract:

This study is a study that deals with the levels and preferences of social media use of individuals who live in the provinces of Eskişehir and Tepebaşı and are considered to represent different generations in terms of the "durability" and "efficiency" dimensions. The research has used a screening model. The scan model is the scan codification in an universe formed by numerous elements on the whole of the universe, or on a group to be taken from it, in order to find a general evidence of the universe (Karasar, 2012). The study group consists of 877 people living in the city centre. The data of the study was collected online using the "Social Media Use Scale" developed by Sea and Passion-Unal (2019). The findings from the study (1) Generations use the most of the smart phones in accessing social media networks. (2) BabyBoomer and X generations prefer to use Facebook, while Y and Z generations use Instagram most. (3) BabyBoomer, Y and Z generations like the most video and music content on social media, while X generations like the most news content.Generations use social media at a medium level in continuity and competence dimensions. (5) The Y and Z generations, the BabyBoomer and the X generations, provide continuity in the use of social media and find themselves more competent in this regard. (6) Generation Z represents the gender that provides continuity in the use of social media compared to men in the same generation.

Abstract:

The present study aimed at investigating the social media usage levels and preferences of people at different ages who represent different generations, residing in Odunpazarı and Tepebaşı districts in the centre of Eskişehir, in terms of the continuity and competence dimensions. The study was carried out in a general survey model which is a survey codification carried out in the whole population or a group of the population with the aim of surmising about the population of the study (Karasar, 2012). The sample group of the study included 877 people who live in the city center. The data was collected online and “Social Media Usage Scale” developed by Deniz and Tutgun-Ünal (2019) was used as data collection tool. The results are as follows: (1) Generations use their smartphones most to access to the Internet. (2) Baby Boomers and generation X prefer using Facebook whereas generation Y and Z prefer using Instagram most. (3) Baby Boomers, Generation Y and Z like videos and music contents the most while Generation X like the news the most. (4) Regarding the continuity and competence dimensions, generations use social media at moderate level. (5) Generation Y and Z use social media more and perceive themselves more competent than Baby Boomers and generation X. (6) Generation Z females use social media in higher continuity than generation Z males.
