Abstract:

Turkish Music has maintained its continuity for centuries with the master-apprentice relationship and memory based meşk system. Although performers and composers prefer to record the music in their memory, when we examine the historical path of Turkish music, it is possible to say that works on notations have been undertaken as one of the important tools that make them to be remembered and carried to the future. It can be said that one of the most common used of these notations was Hamparsum notation which had been developed in 19th century. Many works could be transferred through the Hamparsum notation, which was used both in Turkish Music environment and in Armenian churches. In the 1537 numbered notebook in the Istanbul Archaeological Museums Library, thanks to Hamparsum notation, 39 peşrev, 12 saz semaisi and 1 şarkı were taken under record. Transcription of these works has been done by me and evaluations have been made about the script. The introduction of this notebook and the conversion of its contents to today's note are of great importance as it reflects the performance characteristics of the period they were written and shows the change they were subject to over time as well as carrying them to future. In this study, 1537 numbered book and its contents written in the Hamparsum notations in Istanbul Archaeological Museums Library were examined, assessment was made on belonging of the book, findings were stated notation in the book and their application.
