Abstract:

The aim of this study is to determine the levels and perceptions of students of the University of Sivas on global warming and climate change. The study included 382 students. The data was analyzed through the SPSS program using tests such as frequency, percentage, average, independent sampling t test and ANOVA. It has been determined that the general level of knowledge of students regarding climate change is at the "mediate" level, while the level of knowledge about "fighting" related to climate change is lower. In research findings, students have defined climate change as "natural balance disruption". Students’ global warming and climate change information sources have been determined to be the most of the internet, scientific studies and TV radio. The opinions of students on the main causes of climate change were identified as "air pollution, deforestation and ozon layer deforestation" respectively. Research findings also found that there are significant differences between monthly income, the field of science, the father's profession, the variables "where the family lives", "learning about climate conditions" and the views of students on climate change. According to their fields of science, students studying in social sciences have a lower level of knowledge about the impacts of climate change and the ways of fighting. As a result, it may be recommended that students provide more effective training and awareness, in particular in the "combat" related to climate change, in order to increase their levels of knowledge about climate change.
