Abstract:

Migration is a phenomenon that has been done since the earliest periods of history, that opens and closes ages, and whose causes and consequences closely affect human life. The differences between the country of immigration and the country of destination mean some innovations for both the immigrants and the people in the destination countries. Examining the effects of migration on individuals and societies on the basis of gender has recently started. In the migration literature, it has been pointed out that women are one of the groups most negatively affected by migration since recently. The problems women experience during and after their arrival in the destination country necessitate the struggle and rebuilding their lives. Social work aims to provide professional support to individuals who are seen as disadvantaged in many aspects in the society within the scope of their needs. In this review article, first of all, the feminization process of migration and the reasons for women's migration are given. It is mentioned how this process affects the family life, financial situation and social harmony of immigrant women. Finally, the role and effects of the empowerment approach towards the problems and needs of immigrants and women in social work practices are discussed.
