Abstract:

Purpose: Another aspect that has been valuable as breast milk and breastfeeding in recent years is the mental state of the mothers after childbirth. The aim of the study is to evaluate the impact of postpartum depression and anxiety levels on breastfeeding attitudes in the ages of 18-49. Patients and Method: This study was conducted by 243 participants over the age of 18 who were registered in the family health centers from 1 February 2021 to 1 August 2021 and who were applicable for the lohusa and newborn vaccine, pre- pregnancy or non-psychiatric disease during pregnancy. The findings: Women’s educational levels, the need for mother’s milk, the level of breastfeeding knowledge and the time of breastfeeding have been found to affect the levels of breastfeeding attitudes. When we looked at breastfeeding attitudes according to the birth weeks, it was found that the breastfeeding attitudes of participants who gave birth 32 weeks before were higher than those who gave birth 36 weeks and above (p=0,001). The result: the most important variable that affects the levels of breastfeeding attitude has been seen as state anxiety. As the levels of breastfeeding attitudes of women who support the level of conditional concern and postpartum depression will be better, it can be said that increased communication with the relevant mothers will have a positive impact on the health of the mother and baby.
